Baby's First Haircut

Courtesy of her sister, who just squeaked by her 6th birthday the day before she did this.

She may have had a chance of making it to her 7th birthday if she had saved the clump of hair for her sister's baby book, but she decided to get rid of the evidence.

What is is about kids, scissors, and hair? All three of my kids had "hair incidents," the worst being my youngest who, at age three, cut all of her hair off. She was, of course, so proud of her new look. Sigh.

Poor kid. Your wrath undoubtedly trumps the fun she had.

One of mine took scissors to his own head. The same one whom we took the scissors away from as a toddler. I still don't think he's seen a pair since, and he's 18 now.

This made me LAUGH out loud. Nathan once performed free haircuts in the back of the classroom in 1st or 2nd grade. He hacked this girls hair and the parents were very upset but thank heaven did not come to our house and demand a limb in return. HaHa. Following this classroom exercise, we had to have the infamous scissor conversation. Scissors are for cutting paper. Not random paper but paper given to you for cutting. Scissors are not for cutting your hair, your friends hair, your clothes, your friends clothes or anything inside your home or classroom other then the allowed paper.

I have to LAUGH that as parents we even have to have those conversations sometimes. Like what seems common knowledge to us is bewildering to children.

Apparently this is a rite of passage. It will be a funny story in a few years!

My 5-year-old son did this to himself a few months ago. I had let him go too long without a haircut and his ever-sensitive father (urgh!) said, "boy, you're starting to look like a girl" a la Hank Hill. Boy decided to fix it himself.
